WHAT IS THE LION’S GATE PORTAL & THE SIRIUS GATEWAY?
When I was first introduced to the concept of Lion’s Gate in 2020, I was fascinated by the concept that each year on August 8, somehow the stars would align to create a potent energetic field to support us in manifesting our deepest desires.
But nothing I read online satisfied my curiosity. It seemed like each article was cut and pasted from the other. I could feel the surface-level marketing tactics as they hit the appropriate keywords for search engine optimization.
And as I began to study astrology, what I found online only deepened my doubts.
How could the stars align so precisely each year on a human-made date (8.8) which also happens to have numerological significance?
In 2021, the New Moon in Leo happened to be on August 8, which added to the magic of this mysterious day. But each year after that, the only consistent celestial object in Leo on August 8 was the Sun at 15° (based on the Western tropical zodiac).
This exploration brought up questions about the fixed star Sirius, which these online articles described as being in perfect alignment with the Sun on August 8.
Again, how could this alignment be possible?
Sirius is fixed at 14° in Cancer. This means that the Sun and Sirius could only be "aligned” around July 6. And this is if "aligned” meant conjunct (when two celestial objects are at the same degree in the same zodiac sign). This conjunction doesn’t happen in the sign of Leo, where the “lion” in Lion's Gate most likely comes from.
The information in the zeitgeist was (and sometimes still is) questionable.
I’m happy to say that the available information about Lion’s Gate and the correlation to August 8 has improved since my curiosity was piqued in 2020. I sense that many of us asked the same questions, shared the same doubts, and wanted to stop spreading misinformation.
This doubt and curiosity inspired the article you’re now reading, and I hope it supports your doubt and curiosity as well. These are the questions I aim to answer:
What is the Lion's Gate Portal?
Where does it come from? Or what's its point of origin?
What's the connection between the fixed star Sirius and Lion’s Gate?
We can explore this phenomenon from several different perspectives: Egyptian history and mythology, numerology, Western esotericism, astrology, astronomy and starseed theory.
And so what comes next is a mixture of research from most of these backgrounds.

THE HISTORY OF LION’S GATE
There’s actually no clear historical documentation about where the term Lion’s Gate comes from.
What we do know is that from July 22nd-ish to August 12th-ish (ie, when the Sun is in Leo… the season of the Lion), Sirius rises before the sun in the western hemisphere. This is called the heliacal rising of Sirius.
The rising of Sirius before the sun has traditionally marked an agricultural time of abundance and fertility in Egyptian history and cosmology. This historical significance bled into Greek and Roman agricultural mythology, which we know as the Dog Days of Summer.
It seems that the name Lion’s Gate relates to the energy of the Sun and Sirius as they make their appearance in the sky near the same period of time during Leo season.
This begs the question:
Why is Sirius so important?
Astronomically, Sirius is the brightest star in the sky.
Esoterically, this brightness carried profound meaning to ancient Egyptians. As the Sun held life-giving gifts, Sirius was revered as the “Sun behind the Sun”, or the Sacred Sun. This is why Sirius is historically correlated with material growth.
In ancient Egypt, the rising of Sirius in the morning represented abundance since this timing also aligned with the flooding of the Nile. When the Nile flooded, the land became fertile, and of course, abundance ensued. Because of this, the rising of Sirius also initiated the new year.
Sirius also represented the celestial embodiment of the Goddess Isis. As Sirius, Isis takes on the name Sopdet (Egyptian) or Sothis (Greek). Sopdet calls forward the transformation of the dry banks of the Nile into fertile soil.
This in itself is a resurrection, but her appearance also highlights the resurrection of her beloved, Osiris, who had been killed and dismembered by his jealous brother, the god of war and chaos, Set.
Through her love and devotion, Isis brings Osiris back to life. This love is represented as we see Sirius seemingly lifting Orion in the night sky.

Isis is Sirius, and Osiris is Orion.
Sirius elevates Orion while also pulling up the Sun behind her. This is the alignment those articles on the internet are refering to.
From this perspective, Sirius represents:
soul resurrection - remembering your soul’s wisdom and truth… the way Isis resurrects Orion,
an abundance of resources - in whatever form is most needed (ie: wealth, health, wisdom…)
spiritual expansion and awakening - becoming aware of the expansiveness of your soul’s purpose
inner growth - strength to face the emotions, awareness, and shadows that come with the expansion of your energetic capacity
This is the power and the mythology that comes with the Lion's Gate portal, or what we’re now beginning to see might be better known as the Sirius Gateway, Sirius Portal, or Sirius Stargate.

THE NUMEROLOGY OF LION’S GATE
And so we see, the correlation between the Sirius Gateway or Lion’s Gate, and August 8 (8.8) seems to be more of a coincidence than anything.
But of course, we all know there’s no such thing as a coincidence.
I now treat August 8 as a lightworker holiday. Thanks to all the powerful symbolism and mythology that surrounds it, 8.8 is a day full of magic and possibility. Why not play with it! Our world is too serious not to. We need days like this, so let’s take them when we can.
8.8 is the perfect day to soak yourself in your greatest vision.
Many cosmic events make this day potent:
As we’ve already learned, there’s the Lion's Gate and Sirius Star Portal that opens from July 26 (or 22, depending on your beliefs or background) to August 11
Then, there’s the Sun in Leo (from July 22 to August 22)
And you can often throw in a Mercury Retrograde and an Aquarius Full Moon in the mix
Add to this alchemical soup the potency of 8, and you have a perfect elixir for manifesting your dreams.
8 symbolizes infinity because when you put an 8 on its side, it looks like the infinity symbol. The infinity symbol represents limitlessness and the balance of opposing forces, conveying a sense of earthly mastery.
In Pythagorean numerology, 8 stands for ambition, authority and success.
When we combine the concept of infinity with the 8 of Pythagorean numerology, we get the concept of infinite material abundance.
And in the middle of all this, we have Lion's Gate or the Sirius Gateway.
This is the power of 8.8, my friends.
And so my best advice is to spend the day holding your vision with reverence.
Eat food that reminds you of your vision.
Watch shows that remind you of your vision.
Smell items that remind you of your vision.
Read books that remind you of your vision.
Saturate your 8.8 day with the sensory experience of what you want to see in the world.

THE MYSTERY OF LION’S GATE
I could write so much more about this mysteriously magical portal. And I will. This article will continue to grow as I continue to learn.
But I believe it’s important to keep in mind that the metaphysical lore around Lion’s Gate is meant to be felt, seen, and experienced.
As we connect to energy of Sirius as Isis we understand that this period of time carries the energy of Mystery Schools. This is why Lion’s Gate so hard to define. It’s an energetic gateway that has opened throughout history, and that has managed to evade and yet permeate the senses.
May not evade yours. May it bring you growth and success. And may you have the capacity to hold it all.
